I'm Brandan Smestad - aka Smest. Smest is a throw back to my high school nickname. I try to channel the excitement and energy from those years when performing.
I began playing music in college but didn't get serious until 2025 which is when I started playing professionally. My music selection is diverse - I've been influenced mostly by where mood and life circumstances have taken me. My favorite genres include pop, rock and country from most time periods, however I mostly focus on the 90's through today.
I'm entirely self taught and appreciate music that breaks barriers and challenges established norms. I believe that some of the best music comes from channeling deep pain that leaves the artist somewhere between euphoria and tears. This place has given me the most creativity.
My inspiration is my younger brother who was always my biggest fan. After he passed in 2022 I decided to take my music seriously and see how good I could be. I've come a long way and manage to keep upping the ante. I just wish he could see the journey.
